Wolf Sightings Map
Welcome to the Carnivore Project’s Wolf Sightings Map, a community-maintained tool showing approximate wolf locations, over time, in California, referenced directly from the CDFW Wolf Tracker. We also display other data collected by our citizen science team such as confirmed wolf sightings, tracks, and depredations. This map is maintained daily for the benefit of ranchers and residents living alongside wolves as a tool to inform them on best management practices for protecting livestock and pets.
This map runs on community support — help us keep it going.
- April 16th 2026As of 4/16/2026 the map has updated and is functioning properly. Harvey 2 and 4 have moved north west to near Whaleback and is sharing a hexagon with Whaleback 4.
For the most current and accurate information, please visit the official CDFW site: https://wildlife.ca.gov/Conservation/Mammals/Gray-Wolf.
Our volunteers check the CDFW map daily, often hourly. We strive to update the map as soon as we see a change in position and to add sightings as soon as they’re received.
Tracking historical patterns of movements over time helps us understand how packs move through Northern California landscapes. This unofficial view complements the official CDFW Wolf Tracker by preserving past approximate locations for better context. By mapping other activity and sightings, we strive to create a one-stop-shop map for residents to better inform themselves on wolf activity.
This is an unofficial, community-maintained view. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by CDFW. Use at your own risk—no warranties for accuracy. Do not use for any actions that could impact wolves or private property.
This map is intended for informational purposes only, to track general pack movements over time. Wolves are protected; please report sightings responsibly via official CDFW channels.
